work as a dragonrider and his beloved dragon. He dislikes
frivolity and will not tolerate it. He's discipline, organized,
and determined to get the job done.
Background: Larek was born in Fort Hold as a bastard son of the Lord
Holder, a result of the infidelity of the man with a kitchen drudge. Raised
offhandedly by his neglectful mother and by a kindly cook named Cora,
Larek quickly learned to take care of himself. He grew up to be
fiercely independent and quick-witted under such inattentiveness. At
eleven turns, Larek's mother disappeared, rumored to have left for the
south to marry some minor lord holder but Larek never found out the
truth and never cared to. He drifted from home to home for a while. At
last, he ended up at Blacksmith Hall where a cheerful, kind-hearted
Blacksmith named Gelion took him in and apprenticed him. He taught
Larek the tricks of the trade and how to defend himself against
attackers.
When Larek turned fourteen, he was
Searched by a visiting Searchrider from Fort Weyr. Larek, unlike
most boys, had never had a particular interest in dragons or
fire-lizards. Gelion, however, encouraged him to go with the Searchrider. The
first time Larek stood on the sands, he Impressed one of the seven
bronzes of the clutch, bonding with bronze Galianth.
As L'rek now, he took quickly to
the life of the dragonriders. He shot easily through the ranks
throughout the turns and became a trusted friend of the Weyrleader's. At
22, he had a son with Moirah, the rider of a gold Galianth caught during
a mating flight, that they named Lian. He finally became Wingleader
at 24 turns and formed one of the finest, most disciplined wings during
that time. Seven years later, disaster struck Fort Weyr when a
massive earth quake hit the north, annihilating not only Fort but
Telgar, Igen, and High Reaches. L'rek and Galianth helped evacuate
as many from the Weyr as possible with the help of Free Falling's
riders. When all was said and done, the devastation done to Fort
was immense and the surviving riders were forced to transfer to other
Weyrs. L'rek, by Moirah's suggestion, transferred to Free Falling Weyr.
Dragon Information
Name: Galianth
Age: 17
Color: bronze
Personality:
Galianth is wise and cunning. He matches his rider's stern attitude
with a more light-hearted perspective of life. Galianth's wry humor
and gentle acceptance of the world has made him come off as whimsical to
others. L'rek's often too serious approach to things is countered
by this bronze's more subtle personality.
