J'nir and Brown Colfith

Name: J'nir

Played by: Kay

Pronounced: juh-NEER

Nickname: Nir

Sex: male

Rank: wingrider

Age: 17

Birthplace: Kaylour Hold

Mother's Name, rank, location: Rinni, journeywoman beastcrafter, Kaylour Hold

Father's Name, rank, location: Jylone, cotholder, Kaylour Hold

Siblings: brother Jarelon, age 23, journeyman healer, Nerat Hold; brother Rinon, age 11, Kaylour Hold

Significant others: none

Children: none

Height: 5'11"

Build: Though a bit stocky, J'nir uses his strength to his advantage as a dragonrider.

Hair color/style: Tawny brown, falling in tight curls to the base of his neck.

Eyes: Klah brown and always full of humor. Although he's been told his keen eyes make him look intelligent, he usually laughs at the idea and waves it off dismissively.

Complexion: Deep olive brown and tanned darker by the sun.

Anything you feel would help describe your persona better: J'nir dresses simply, accustomed to working hard in clothes that he can afford to get dirty. Many of his work clothes were handed down to him from his older brother and are now a little too small for him, since he has grown several inches in the past few Turns.

Habits: He rocks back and forth on his heels while in conversation, and if he is very bored he subconsciously forms the hand signals that he uses to communicate with runnerbeasts, to keep himself in practice even though his duties as a rider now consume nearly all of his time. When he speaks with Colfith, his face gets scrunched up on one side, as if he was in deep contemplation.

Hobbies: Throughout childhood, J'nir's sole hobby was spending time with and taking care of his canine Wolf and his runnerbeast Bane, his first two joys before Colfith came along. Now that he has Graduated from weyrling training, Wolf and Bane have joined him at the Weyr where he cares for them in his spare time. J'nir also occupies his free time with dagger throwing, a favorite pastime of his, or just wandering aimlessly around the Weyr.

Personality: J'nir is a rather level-headed individual who always calculates the odds before making a decision. Despite his rational personality, however, J'nir would not call himself serious. He is always the first to make a joke when that seems to be the last thing on everyone's mind, to help lighten the mood. Working hard is a guarantee in the life of a dragonrider, but in J'nir's opinion that does not mean that it can't be fun, and he believes that the easiest way to get through a day is by finding the humor in every day life. Whenever free from duties, J'nir is more than ready to have fun and will always follow someone else's lead into something exciting. Working around runnerbeasts all his life has made him a very patient person and teacher, though he would never say so himself. It's easy to get along with J'nir, and he is usually the fellow who never really has anything bad to say about anyone.

Background: When he was a child, young Jylonir had no greater aspiration than becoming one of the renowned runner breeders of Kaylour Hold. His mother, a journeywoman beastcrafter herself, taught him from the time he was little of her craft and how to ride. By the time he was twelve and an apprentice beastcrafter, he was already riding like it was second nature to him. His skill on the back of a horse drew the attention of the masters at Kaylour Hold, and they even permitted him to ride, on occasion, the sleek racing runners that were the best that the Hold bred. By some genetic accident, the colt that was supposed to be the next great racing runner of Pern inherited legs too short and stocky for racing. As no one else wanted a runner that everyone called a 'mistake,' Jylonir took the young colt as his own and named him Bane. A short while later, his parents gave him a canine pup, whom he called Wolf after his sleek grey fur, to care for as his own.
Before he was Searched, Jylonir believed that dragons were like gigantic, semi-sentient runnerbeasts. His first interaction with one of these amazing beasts occurred when he was Searched, just one month after turning fifteen, which he considers to be the second most incredible moment of his life--after Impression, of course. He was brought to Free Falling Weyr and Impressed his first time on the sands, becoming J'nir of brown Colfith. Once he had Impressed a lifemate of his own, J'nir realized that dragons are truly nothing like runnerbeasts at all and that their bond is deeper than anything he ever shared with Wolf or Bane. J'nir devoted himself to becoming a rider so that along with Colfith he would one day fly threadfall in the skies of Pern.
When Graduation came at last, J'nir was thrilled to join the ranks of the full riders of Free Falling Weyr. However, J'nir also realized the significance that the title of dragonrider bears. It is every rider's duty to fly against Fall and defend Pern, and in such dark times as these no rider is assured that he will make it safely through threadfall. Nonetheless, J'nir and Colfith will do whatever it takes to do their part, and he is very proud to call himself a dragonrider.

Dragon Information

Name: Colfith

Age: 2 Turns

Color: brown

Sire/Dame: Bronze Rayenth/Gold Julinath

Personality: Colfith is a light-hearted brown who delights in his friendships and is eager to make the acquaintance of any dragon. "Duty" is not Colfith's favorite word, but weyrling training has instilled in him a strong desire to do his part in the defense of Pern. He always does what he is told and never fails to do his best at anything. Colfith has become calmer and less playful since he has matured into a fully grown dragon, but he still has a sense of humor to rival J'nir's and is constantly trying to come up with witty jokes and riddles.

PET information:

Name: Wolf

Age: 3.5 Turns

Color: grey

Species: canine

Personality: Loving and loyal, Wolf will stand by J'nir through anything. Though wary of people he does not know, Wolf soon learns to trust them as long as they slip him a treat from their pocket or offer him a quick belly scratch. Wolf was raised around runnerbeasts and other animals, so he knows how to be quiet and not be disturbing. J'nir trained him to be a herding dog, and he is very adept in this area of expertise. He can also be a good hunter, if instructed properly, although his main joy is playing with his beloved master, J'nir.

Name: Bane

Age: 4 Turns

Color: chestnut with a white star on his brow and black socks

Species: runner

Personality: Bane is obedient and submissive to J'nir, though as stubborn and thick-headed as a mule with any other rider. Virtually useless as a work runner or racing runner, Bane serves his master as a companion and a friend. He does not, however, get along well with Wolf, and he has come very close to kicking the canine when Wolf gets on his nerves. Bane is a steady, reliable runnerbeast and doesn't spook easily. In fact, this runner will snap at a threat before turning tail!

HOLD or CRAFT Information
