His mother died when he was 2 so he was brought up by his father and older brother. At the age of 19 he married Amilla a young girl from nearby hold. Five years later their daughter was born. They were very happy living with Johans' father and brother on the farm. But when the girl was 2 Amilla went ill and died. Johans was desperate. He was not able to bring up his child so the girl is living with her mother's family since then. He spent the next 5 years on the farm caring of runners. It took him quite a long time to calm himself down after the death of his wife but he finally did it. And then the disaster came.... He went on the pasturage with some runners. He was to spent there a few days waiting for his father and brother to join him with the rest of runners. One day he noticed a smoke. When he came back to the farm it had been burned. Johans' father and brother died and he lost everything. He spent a few days in the shelter on the field not wanting to live any longer. But finally he decided to start a new life in totally different place. So he sold all his remaining runners except his favorite Rushy and gave all the money to his daughter. One morning he woke up and thought: "Weyr would be great place to live" so he mounted his runner and headed for Free Falling Weyr...
