Nickname: None
Sex: Male
Rank: Wingrider
Age: 18
Birthplace: Ista Hold
Mother's Name, rank, location: Aliko, cook, Ista Hold, 36 turns
Father's Name, rank, location: Jurriel, Master Fisher, Tillek Fishercraft Hall,
38 turns
Siblings: None
Significant others: Andrett
Children: Nekar, son (adopted) 2 1/2 turns, Alett, daughter 6 months
Height: 5'5"
Build: R'ko is fairly short, only five feet, five inches. He is not built
slightly, but he is also not broad shouldered. He is well muscled from working
aboard fishing vessels and from physical training at the weyr.
Hair color/style: R'ko keeps his hair short enough to fit inside his helmet,
though he likes to let it grow to be at least long enough for fingers to run
through it. It is dark brown and straight.
Eyes: R'ko has light brown eyes, almost hazel.
Complexion: R'ko has a tanned complexion that he does not completely lose even
when he does not see regular sunlight. It is generally clear and smooth. R'ko is
not particularly attractive, though neither is he markedly ugly. He is plain.
Anything you feel would help describe your persona better: R'ko likes to wear
lighter clothing as native to his home in Ista, though the cold weather at Free
Falling often precludes this. He still prefers lighter colors.
Habits: R'ko bites his nails. Usually to the quick. Often times when he is bored
or otherwise unoccupied with physical activity, he is chewing on the skin around
his fingernails or the nails themselves.
Hobbies: R'ko spends a good deal of his free time with his love, Andrett, and
their two children, Nekar and Alett. From time to time, when he can manage, he
likes to go fishing.
Personality: R'ko is friendly to most and almost always tries to defend those
who are being picked on. Even so, he can be easily swayed by his friends and can
often be talked into agreeing with something that he really does not agree with
just for the sake of being agreeable. R'ko has no actual disdain for traditions,
but he does not see anything wrong with bending or going around them if it makes
one happy, especially with the current state of the world. However, he will put
on a traditional face around any who seem to support traditional ways of
thought. R'ko was once sensitive about his height but has since outgrown this
quirk. R'ko has a strong fatherly feeling toward Nekar, Andrett's son by another
man. Ever since he fell in love with Andrett, he has also been in love with
Nekar, and he intends to raise the boy to believe that R'ko is his biological
father.
Background: Rieko was born to young, unwed parents at Ista Hold. His father was
a fisherman who spent most of his time at sea, and Rieko scarcely saw him
throughout his childhood. His mother worked in the kitchens. Rieko spent a good
deal of his childhood being raised by his father's parents and his other. Once
he was old enough, around the age of thirteen, Rieko began to go out to sea with
his father and learned a bit of the fishercraft, and he quickly began to be a
great help to the fishermen. Though he was not formally trained, he picked up on
sailing and fishing easily, and enjoyed accompanying his father and the others.
He found that he preferred being on boats more than on land itself and began,
like his father, to spend most of his time at sea, whether with the fishermen or
on his own on small rafts he crafted himself. At the age of fourteen, he was
searched by riders from Ista Weyr and spent the better part of a turn at Ista
without ever Impressing. This convinced Rieko for the time being that he was not
meant to be a rider, and he began to consider formal apprenticeship to the
fisher craft hall. However, during the time he spent at Ista, his parents'
relationship had become unstable due to his father's constant absence. His
mother decided that it would be best if they separated. Rieko made the decision
to travel with his father to the Fisher Hall in Tillek, though he promised his
mother that he would return to visit whenever he had the opportunity. Even as
such, he knew that such opportunities would be rare. Rieko formally apprenticed
to the fishers at Tillek for about one turn before he was searched again by a
bluerider from Free Falling Weyr. The bluerider himself had been a weyrbrat and
told Rieko that he stood for turns without Impressing, but he waited long enough
and eventually the dragon that was right for him hatched. Even so, Rieko was
reluctant to leave his apprenticeship. The bluerider convinced Rieko to leave
the fishers by allowing Rieko a chance to ride with him on his blue! . Though he
had known short flights on dragonback before, the bluerider showed him how
flying with a dragon was far more exhilarating even than sailing - it was like
sailing the skies. This experience convinced Rieko to try candidacy once more.
Rieko's father was unhappy with his decision, but he supported it, sure to let
Rieko know that he was welcome back at the Hall if at any time he decided that
candidacy was not for him. As he failed to Impress during his turn at Ista,
Jurriel fully expected Rieko to come back after a turn without Impressing at
Free Falling.
Not very long after his arrival at Free Falling Weyr, Rieko was approached by a
young woman named Andrett. It seemed, at first, that she was only interested in
sex, but once Rieko refused and insisted that they wait, it seemed that she and
Rieko were falling in love. Rieko became especially enamored with Andrett's
infant son, Nekar, and gained two strong reasons to stay at the Weyr, even if he
did not Impress. Andrett had a strong expectation for Rieko to Impress bronze,
and it became his ambition to do so. How else could his dragon fly the gold she
was bound to Impress?
When Rieko saw the little brown zooming toward him, he forgot all about any
ambition he may have known to see a bronze before him that day. How could he
ever have wanted anything other than his Ryoth? Even after he practically bowled
him over with his uncontrolled speed, R'ko knew that Ryoth was perfect for him,
and that he would never need any other. During the hatching feast, while Ryoth
slept, Andrett told R'ko that she was pregnant with his child and that she was
giving up the candidacy to stay with him. How could a brown fly a gold, after
all? R'ko was very disappointed when he found that Ryoth was VERY jealous and
did not approve of Andrett, although for some reason, seeing Nekar as an
extension of R'ko as his son, he did feel amiably toward the boy. R'ko was
unable to see Andrett for the first many months of weyrlinghood because Ryoth
would not allow it. When he finally convinced him that his "female thing" as
Ryoth called her could be a part of their family and after persuading the
weyrlingmaster, R'ko was able to attend the birthing of his daughter, Alett,
named for his mother and hers. Once he passed the ten month mark and was able to
start seeing Andrett again, Ryoth slowly began to warm up to her and eventually,
R'ko was able to weyrmate with Andrett.
R'ko has recently graduated to full wingrider status, and plans to bring his
mother and perhaps also his father to Free Falling soon to meet his son and
daughter.
Dragon Information
Name: Ryoth
Age: 1 year
Color: Brown
Sire/Dame: Bronze Lariath/ Gold Kilenanth
Personality: This brown's first love is to fly. He's an adventurous sort, and it
would almost seem that his dreams while inside his egg were of nothing but
soaring above in the blue skies. When he hatched, he found himself quite
flustered that he could not yet fly in truth. Where would he use that flying
practice? Well, the browns second love in life is hunting. It doesn't matter
whether he's hungry or not, or even whether what he's chasing is edible. The joy
is in chasing his prey down and cornering it. The faster it is the better.
There's no challenge in catching something slow.
Ryoth loves to curl up on his wallow and snooze. He can do so for hours, as if
he were storing up energy for his next spurt of energy.
This brown will rarely, if ever, speak to humans other than his rider. His bond
is with his rider, and his rider alone, and he'll show complete loyalty to that
rarely doubting or arguing with his lifemate. Talking to other humans will seem
like a betrayal to him, as if he were cheating on his rider. If he ever does so,
it will only be in the utmost emergency.
Similarly, he will be disapproving of other dragons talking to humans who aren't
their own - and horribly jealous if they talk to *his* rider! He's not prepared
to share!
