What exactly does the Weyrwoman do?This page was authored by Roni for The Mentor Hall. Please do not use any of this without her express permission Ever asked yourself that question? If so, you're not alone. A lot of people want to know exactly what a Weyrwoman does besides ride the senior gold. Because, when you think about it, there's the Weyrleader who handles the Wings, and the Headwoman who handles the lower caverns, so what's left? A lot actually. Ever wonder who keeps track of tithing trains? The Weyr population? Oversees the headwoman and the running of the lower caverns? Handles the crafters of the Weyr? Well, that's the Weyrwoman's job. She listens to and handles non-rider complaints and disputes, leads the queen's wing, and holds within her power the ability to order any dragon in the Weyr. An ability that no one can overturn. She's not just a pretty figurehead to stand back and smile and nod when the Weyrleader requires her to. She is a powerful figure in her own right. The only person in the entire Weyr that possesses the ability to demand and obtain complete and total abeyance of the riders that look to her for guidance. What about hatchings? How does all that get planned? Again, the Weyrwoman. Granted, the exact time a clutch is going to hatch is unknown, it's the Weyrwoman's responsibility to make sure that everyone knows exactly what to do when the time for the hatching comes so that when it finally does arrive, things go smoothly and everyone has a great time. She also acts as the PR (Public Relations) person for the Weyr, making visitors feel welcome, and ranking guests feel important. The better a Weyrwoman does her job, the more support the Weyr earns. The more support they earn, the less dissatisfaction at having to tithe. When a position becomes available in the Weyr, it's the Weyrwoman's duty to see that it is filled as quickly as possible. This doesn't, however, include riders. The Weyrleader handles transfers in and out of the Weyr for dragonriders. The records room is also the Weyrwoman's responsibility, keeping them updated and doing any research required. Any of the duties listed above can be delegated to the Weyrwoman's second. A smart Weyrwoman will know her strengths and weaknesses, and choose those duties she excels at, while giving her second the ones she doesn't perform as well... given that her second can do a better job, of course.
