Personality: Reena is quiet and reflective. As a child, she'd been bubbly and vivacious, but has matured much too quickly. With the constant exposure to pain and suffering, she had become a very compassionate individual.

Background: Reena was born at Southern Boll Hold when her mother was there on a visit to her home hold. She actually grew up at the main Healer Hall inside the Harper Hall at Fort Hold. She had a happy, if brief childhood. As both her parents were masterhealers, Reena was quickly immersed in the every day occurrences of bites, breaks, cuts and illnesses. As her father was more into the researching of illnesses, and not to be disturbed, she followed her mother around. Zrisa's more practical approach to healing appealed to Reena and she became quite adept at taking care of the smaller accidents and illnesses, while her mother took care of the more complicated ones. Her early teen years saw her apprenticed, though not to her parents. Her father did not take on apprentices, working instead with the senior journeyman. Her mother was a practicing healer and did not teach. She had many masters and learned quickly. At sixteen, she was at the Harper Hall setting an apprentice's broken leg (the boy had fled down the stairs at full speed and slipped on the last step) when a dragon from Fort Weyr came on search. Reena was not much interested in the blue, but became awed at his obvious interest in her. Reluctantly, and with many misgivings, she accepted search.

When she reached the Weyr, however, she was overwhelmed with a multitude of emotions, none of which appeared to be her own. Happiness, sadness, anger, lust. The whole gambit of emotions assaulted her. She reeled from the impact, the bluerider worrying if /between/ had been too much for the young girl. When his blue dragon crooned at her, she was pierced with overwhelming concern, coming from that same blue. It was found later, after the hatching in which she did not impress, that Reena was able to feel all the dragon's emotions. The weyrlingmaster was concerned that it would affect her being a dragonrider and sent her home. Back at the Healer Hall, Reena dismissed the unusual ability and continued with her apprenticeship. She had just walked the tables to Journeywoman when the Weyrleader and Weyrwoman, themselves, arrived at the Hall. They requested an audience with her parents, in which she was not included. When they emerged from her parent's apartments, she was told she would be returning to the Weyr. Now, at almost seventeen, she again, made the trip to Fort Weyr.

She hadn't learned how to block the emotions of the dragons from her mind since she hadn't expected to come back. Again, she was assaulted, this time with the result that she fainted. A blessing to be sure. When she awoke, in a small room in the lower cavern, the emotions were not quite so intense. She was told by the resident healer, that he had given her fellis and that it would help with the constant pressure. At least until she learned to block such invasions. The hatching was not for another sevenday, so Reena applied herself to controlling her mind, imagining an invisible wall that blocked out any intrusion. The result was she could block out the emotions of the dragons, to a point, but tended to subdue her own as well. Many people began to think she was a cold hearted wherry's behind for it. For her sanity's sake, Reena ignored such sentiments.

The Weyrlingmaster, Auika, as before, was not happy that she was to be presented to the eggs, but the Weyrwoman had insisted. As the hatching approached, Reena's resolve fumbled and she could distinctly feel the high anticipation coming from the multitude of dragons. When they began to hum, the hatching imminent, her head nearly exploded in pain. Determined to impress this time, and, as it was her birthingday, she said nothing, not allowing anyone to know how much she hurt. She stood, reeling from the pain and heat, her eyes stinging as sweat poured into them. She blinked several times and as her eyes cleared, she distinctly heard a voice in her head. {{ What has upset you so?}} She turned, trying to identify who had spoken to her. She lost her balance, her head pounding and fell into a heap on the hot sands. She was suddenly enveloped in a blue haze as a small dragonet crooned gently at her. {{ Here, let me help you. My name is Neroth and you are my chosen one. Do you know where the food is, for my stomach is very empty.}} As Reena sat in the hot sands, her legs and backside sizzling, she stared at the small royal blue dragonet. The only emotion she could feel was the gut wrenching, hollow emptiness of a shriveled belly that was in desperate need of food.

Weyrlinghood was interesting for the pair, to say the least. Neroth learned to help his lifemate block the emotions of the other dragons, though he never quite got the hang of blocking his own. Many were the embarrassing moments when Neroth's overwhelming love of his lifemate made for some awkward incidences in Reena's life.

Graduation!! Finally, Reena was able to take her blue from the Weyr to escape for a while. It was on one such occasion that the destruction of Fort Weyr happened. A free day for Reena, she and Neroth had been at Southern Boll, visiting her grandmother. Even so far away, Reena's eyes glazed over, her body went taunt and she collapsed. She did not awake for three days. Neroth had nearly torn the hold apart trying to get to his lifemate. The Lord Holder, a wise man, moved the unconscious girl to an area where her blue could keep on eye on her. When Reena finally regain consciousness, she was told what happened. Her grief at the death of so many, including her parents, was too overwhelming. Reena secluded herself, spending time with only Neroth. But it was soon apparent, that they could not stay there. It wasn't meant for a dragon to live in a hold, she'd been told by the Lord Holder. Besides, Reena was finding it increasingly difficult to tolerate her grandmother's constant grief over her mother and the never ending stream of obscenities directed at her father.

Late one night, a small pack full of what she thought she would need, Reena left the Hold. She and Neroth traveled. Mostly in outlying areas where the devastation was the worst. Reena was a healer, the calling strong in her, so she did what she could to help. It was soon apparent, that something was not right. She'd come across several holdings in the north and been literally stoned out of the villages the moment the people caught sight of Neroth. Reena had never come across anyone who didn't revere the large beasts and was puzzled at the villagers attitude. But, as a precaution, she had Neroth stay hidden when she came across any cotholds or small crafthalls. The hardest part of their existence was when thread fell. It took every ounce of Reena's energy to keep her blue on the ground, hidden under some protection or another. Neroth would not speak to her for days after each fall. But she couldn't risk her blue. He had no firestone, and couldn't fight thread by himself anyway. She tried to reason with him, but he was a dragon, through and through.

It was on one such expedition to a hold to offer healing that Reena was attacked. Three men, burly, stinking of wine, and filthy with grime grabbed her and had their way with her. She had screamed into the night, but had forced her blue to stay away. The men had long knives and Reena didn't want Neroth getting hurt. Once they were done with her, she had grabbed her tattered clothing and made a run for it, but not before one of the men made a swipe at her, his blade cutting her from the outside of her left arm to across her left shoulder blade. Lucky for her, it was a long, but shallow cut. Being a healer, she was well able to take care of it, even it it was awkward to reach. They had been steadily moving east and soon they were within sight of another Weyr. Reena could already feel the dragons, though they were far enough away for the emotions to be subdued.

She had been debating for more than a month, that they needed to get back to a Weyr. She had visited High Reaches, but had avoided Fort all together. She couldn't face seeing what had become of her home. What had taken everything she knew away from her. She had seen that both Igen and Telgar Weyrs were no more. She had no desire to cross the ocean and see if Ista was still functioning. That left Free Falling Weyr. She was tired, worn out and depressed. She was worried for her blue....and she was nine months pregnant. Now, she stood just outside the Weyr walls, the dragons within pounding her with their constant emotional tirade.
